A Note from the Superintendent

First of all, I would like to thank Ben, our Assistant Superintendent, for taking charge of course operations during my recent 8-week leave period. His leadership and commitment ensured that standards were maintained and the team continued to perform strongly in my absence. Thanks largely to his efforts, the course has come out of winter in very good condition.

Greens
Greens continue to be cut at 3mm and are rolling exceptionally well. This is despite the seasonal flux of Poa annua, which remains under intensive management. Unfavourable weather on scheduled spray days, combined with the need to work around busy play schedules, has caused some minor delays in product applications. However, we are continuing to maximize every available window to keep our programs on track.

Greens & Course Renovations
Commencing Sunday afternoon, 18th October, our spring renovation program will begin:

  • Greens: Will be hollow cored, amended, and sanded.
  • Aprons & Approaches: Will be solid cored, along with select fairways up to 100m out from the greens.
  • Fairways: Will be verti-cut, cleaned off, and scalped for thatch removal.

As always during spring renovations, rain is a constant variable. This year’s forecast looks challenging, meaning some procedures may be impacted or require alternative dates for completion. Hopefully, the weather holds out long enough for us to finish the bulk of the renovations before it hits.

Tees & Fairways

  • Heights: Tee and fairway heights currently remain at 15mm. They will be lowered during the renovation period to scalp the turf, before being raised to our summer height of 10mm.
  • Weed Control: Recent herbicide applications have caused some transient discolouration on the fairways and first-cut rough. This is a completely normal, temporary reaction; the turf will recover fully during the post-renovation recovery period.
  • 10th Hole Bunker: The turf on the left side of the 10th bunker will be fully in play by the end of the renovation recovery period, opening up the entire area. We thank you for your patience while this was under G.U.R. conditions.

'Til next time,
Happy Hooking!
